Jordan Poole’s four-year contract extension means the Warriors must move Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, or Klay Thompson.
Let’s start with why extending Poole was good business for the Warriors.
He found that confidence, and last season he emerged as the Warriors’ second-best offensive option — a player capable of scoring at all three levels with efficiency and flair.Add in the enviable professionalism he has displayed since arriving in San Francisco — perfectly exemplified in the aftermath ofearlier this month — and Poole had proven himself a player the Warriors needed to keep long-term.
Had the Warriors not extended Poole before the deadline, his price likely would have continued rising as he headed into restricted free agency next summer. And now they need to make another deal. The Warriors could see if Green leaves, too. The Warriors have made it clear to the forward that he will not be extended before this season. After his punch, it’s unlikely an extension is coming in-season, either.
