Indications have grown over the past week or so that if Aaron Rodgers chooses to keep playing, it won’t be with the Green Bay Packers.
It is important, especially this year with Jackson, to know the differences between the types of tags. There are two types of ‘franchise’ tags , plus one type of ‘transition’ tag :Seldom used. The player is not free to sign with any other team. He is offered the greater of the average of the top five salaries at his position for the current season, as of April 23, or the non-exclusive tag salary if that is higher. Dallas slapped an exclusive tag on Dak Prescott two years ago.
If that happens, then the Ravens would have to decide whether to match that offer, in which case they’d keep Jackson, or decline to match, and in which case they’d accept two Round 1 draft picks in return from that signing team, as compensation. If no team signs Jackson to a tender, and the Ravens don’t trade him, he’d have to sign the tag to play in 2023, in Baltimore.
