Rodney MacDonald, who has been operating Koi Ink Tattoos for 12 years, provides his artistic tattoos in a new comfortable environment.

Q: Are there a variety of tattoo styles that you offer?There are nine of us on staff and we all do a variety of styles. We can accommodate almost anybody’s needs or wants. I specialize in more black and grey realism — fine line detailed work. We have another artist that does a lot of fine line abstract realism. Then I have another artist from China who specializes in very fine, very delicate beautiful tattoos. Another artist is really into comic books and Marvel superhero stuff.

We start the drawing process because sometimes it can take hours. After that we’ll basically size it up placement-wise, making sure it’s exactly where they want it and they’re happy. If we may have to change the size or the placement multiple times we do that just to make sure they’re going to love the tattoo and they’re not going to want anything changed in the future.

And we always make sure that they’re comfortable when they sit in the chair. When we put the stencil on before we start we always check and ask them how they’re doing, how they’re feeling. And that’s something that we do throughout the process as well. If they need a break we can take a break. But people always leave happy.It depends on the size. Sometimes a tattoo only takes five minutes. I’ve done tattoos before where it literally took longer to set up my machine than it did to do the tattoo.
