Saskatoon Blades head into pre\u002Dseason after wrapping up their Western Hockey League training camp with the 2023 Kirkness Cup.

“Willie James, I think, is going to be an outstanding player for us and he was a list player with a late birthday so he’s not even in his draft year. He’s really stood out with his skill and tenacity and speed. I think he’s going to be pretty much a shoo-in to make our hockey team after being a list. That’s really cool to have. You want list guys to do that.”

“Which is always exciting for the families,” said Priestner. “We had two young men who’ll be on our list from their performances here on the weekend. They were just invited to camp and now they’ve earned a spot — Ewan Gillis, a small young defenceman, and Brady Whitehead, who’s played out here and played really well this weekend.”“He’s really dynamic and skilled,” pointed out Priestner, “and he’s really fast and he seems to be fearless. He’s made a pretty big impression on our staff.
