Strong southwesterly winds are expected to blow through the region Monday afternoon, potentially hitting 100 km/h in some places.Environment Canada says powerful winds out of the southwest are expected to blow through communities like Kingston and Belleville on Monday afternoon. Powerful winds are expected to blow through Kingston, Ont., and other communities on and around Lake Ontario on Monday, according to Environment Canada.

A special weather statement for the Kingston area issued at 3:45 p.m. Sunday warned that strong southwesterly winds between 80 km/h and 90 km/h could develop Monday afternoon and continue into the night. A wind warning, meanwhile, was issued for the Belleville, Ont., area at around the same time, noting that 100 km/h winds could arrive Monday afternoon before weakening that night.

The high winds could damage windows and roof shingles and cause tree branches to break off, the weather agency said. Power outages are possible. Monday's forecasted highs for both Kingston and Belleville are just below zero, though the wind will make it feel significantly colder.Environment Canada had also issued a snow squall warning for Ottawa and parts of eastern Ontario Sunday morning, but it was lifted shortly after noon.Cold weather rolls into Hamilton and Niagara, travel advisory issued
