What if your Android smartphone had a massive keyboard hiding under the screen? I've spent some time with Planet Computers' Astro Slide to find out.

, the letterboxed aspect ratio of the Astro Slide is not the easiest of window sizes for Android to scale to. The nature of many mobile apps is to have a vertically scrolling ribbon of information, with status bars at the top and navigation at the bottom. Unless developers have made a conscious choice to work a UI into this space, it can get awkward.

The keyboard is, of course, the number one USP of the Astro Slide, and I’m happy to say that it works as advertised. Planet Computers have upped the quality of the keyboard on each iteration of its mobile devices. The big win here is a backlit keyboard, which helps working on the device immensely. The key action is solid enough, but there are moments when typing fast where I can feel the keycaps shifting under my fingers.

Gigantic Jupiter-like alien planet observed still 'in the womb'Gigantic Jupiter-like alien planet observed still 'in the womb'Scientists have observed an enormous planet about nine times the mass of Jupiter at a remarkably early stage of formation - describing it as still in the womb - in a discovery that challenges the current understanding of planetary formation. The researchers used the Subaru Telescope located near the summit of an inactive Hawaiian volcano and the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope to detect and study the planet, a gas giant orbiting unusually far from its young host star. Gas giants are planets, like our solar system's largest ones Jupiter and Saturn, composed mostly of hydrogen and helium, with swirling gases surrounding a smaller solid core.
