One teen was killed and another wounded on Jan. 29 in Bridgeton.
A Bridgeton man accused of driving a group of teens to a street where they allegedly shot and killed a 17-year-old will remain jailed while he awaits trial, a Superior Court judge ruled Tuesday.
Three of the four people who got out of the truck walked up the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street from where the victims were located, according to Wettstein. “Shortly afterward, these subjects are then seen going back towards the area where this party was located and prowling around the residence where the party was,” the prosecutor said, noting that the shooting occurred about a half an hour later. “It’s believed the shooting is in retaliation for something that occurred at the party earlier in the evening.”
In arguing that Perez should remain jailed, Wettstein said investigators believe he knows the identities of the suspects who remain at large. In addition to posing a risk to the public and a risk for not showing up to future court dates if he’s freed, Perez could obstruct efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects, the prosecutor argued.
“You’ve got four individuals in your car. At least two you now know have guns,” Branco said. “Do you say, get out of my car of do you do what they say?”
