Researchers from the Victor Chang Cardiac Institute have uncovered a molecule that plays a key role in how cells detect when they are being pushed or pulled which could lead to the development of future drugs for obesity, osteoporosis, and inflammatory diseases. Researchers at the Victor Chang Ca
Scientists have discovered a molecule critical in sensing cellular pressure, offering potential for new treatments for obesity, osteoporosis, and inflammatory diseases. New research has revealed how this molecule regulates PIEZO ion channels, responsible for touch and spatial awareness, using advanced cryo-electron microscopy.
They believe it will now be possible to design new therapeutics that could either ramp down or dial down the activity of the sensors, also known as PIEZO ion channels.Lead author Dr. Charles Cox.
