The Cavaliers have been just fine since he left, sent to the Rockets in January of 2021, his second season, for a heavily protected second-round draft pick. Porter, too, has grown, especially this season as he has put up the best numbers of his career and avoided the issues and distractions that marked the start of his career and the end of his tenure with the Cavs.
“Cleveland was a part of my journey,” Porter said. “It was my first opportunity. So, I’ll always have love for Cleveland, them welcoming me to the NBA. It’s going to be fun going back, playing my first game there since I left. I just want to feel the atmosphere and energy from the fans.” “I would say that’s the first time I learned about the business of the NBA,” Porter said. “But we’re all still close, still. Those relationships are still there and very valuable to me, and the other side, too.The Cavaliers would likely agree. When the Rockets were close to trading for Porter, Rockets coach Stephen Silas called his longtime friend, Cavs coach J.B.
