Alberta skip Kevin Koe backed by 'younger team' in pursuit of record fifth Brier

At lead on this provincial representative out of the Calgary’s Glencoe Club is 33-year-old Karrick Martin. And at second is 32-year-old Brad Thiessen. Certainly, neither are new to the Brier, having made seven and six appearances respectively at the national championship — including earning gold as front end for Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher in the 2021 Calgary curling bubble.

Of course, Koe parted ways with his former rink of many years — third B.J. Neufeld, second John Morris and lead Ben Hebert — prior to this new season and on the heels of a crushing 9-8 extra-end loss to Team Gushue at last year’s Brier in Lethbridge. That followed a 4-2 loss in the 2021 Brier in Calgary to Bottcher and current hands Thiessen and Martin.

Koe & co. begin this year’s Brier battle at Budweiser Gardens on Saturday afternoon against Nova Scotia’s Matthew Manuel .
