Kenya Working on Smooth-Sailing Reforms at Mombasa Port Kenya
Kenya's President William Ruto has said that the government wants the Mombasa port to be globally competitive,"Reforming the port is crucial for the country's prosperity. The productivity of this port is directly linked to the state of our economy. Improving efficiency will help us create jobs, boost export volumes and stimulate economic growth," Ruto said.
In the World Bank ranking of the most efficient ports, Tanzania's Dar es Salaam port outshone Mombasa as the most efficient port. Dar es Salaam is also building trade with landlocked East African neighbours such as Uganda and Rwanda.The Port of Mombasa recorded a 2.1 per cent decline in container traffic in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period last year.
