Nashville’s heritage is heavily built on country music, and with the September 15 debut of Ken Burns’ documentary “Country Music,” the nation’s spotlight will be on Music City and its many gifts to the world.

Or at least that’s what the multimedia archivist, the official title on his snazzy black and gold business card, calls himself as he leads a small group of visitors through the fascinating exhibits, stopping occasionally to point out one snippet or another about the musicians and songwriters behind the legends of every genre of music, not just of country.
“Just about everybody plays guitar in Nashville,” McDowell says. “You really have to step up your game.” “Country music isn’t a guitar,” begins his well-known assessment of the genre. “It isn’t a banjo, it isn’t a melody, it isn’t a lyric.
