He was tackled by a man whose shoulder knocked out his air. He identified him as Dr. William Johnston Almon, a man of high repute in Halifax. Bitter at his namesake’s success and popularity, he moved and sought independence an entire block away from the brewery, to Hollis Street’s Halifax Hotel. Keith and Almon were tried for the interference of Wade’s arrest. Everyone involved was acquitted, including Wade, who aimed a revolver at a man’s head, pulled the trigger and killed him.Junior wasn’t new to Confederate ships. He was already in the business of offering to register the ships in his name and as a British citizen. This allowed the South to snake around borders.
He hired a clockmaker, J.J. Fuchs, to design a clock timer that could use a hammer. Whether Fuchs knew what he was creating is unknown, but Junior was inventing a time bomb. They dropped the barrel, setting off the timer and creating an eight-foot divot in the stone where their feet were. Eighty people were immediately killed.
