The one thing Kate Middleton wants all children to do this summer holiday
The campaign is pledging to help children across the UK to spend a combined one million hours outdoors in nature this summer. With the school holidays coming up, it's the perfect time for children to get hands-on with plants, flowers and wildlife.
'I hope the Backyard Nature campaign inspires children, families and communities to get outside and engage with nature, wherever they live. Spending time in nature can play a pivotal role in helping children grow up to become happy, healthy adults,' the Duchess explained. 'The great outdoors provides an open playground for children to have fun and learn life-long skills – from balance and coordination to empathy and creativity – with their friends, their parents, their carers, or their family members.', was inspired by a group of young environmentalists from All Saints Catholic Primary School in Anfield, Liverpool.
Over the past few months, Kate has been on a mission to get children more involved with the beauty of nature. From hergarden at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the Duchess has been encouraging families to rediscover nature in its raw form and feel the mental and physical health benefits it has to offer.There are plenty of ways for children across the country to get involved with the new campaign.
Once children have signed up, they can find their local patch using a map highlighting green spaces in their area . There is also useful guides to download and the opportunity to discover conservation events running nearby.
