Former Ottawa city councillor Jenna Sudds, now the MP for Kanata\u002DCarleton, was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister Wednesday.
Sudds, the member of parliament for Kanata-Carleton, was one of the group of new ministers appointed in a ceremony at Rideau Hall, as she takes over the portfolio of families, children and social development.With the new post, Sudds becomes the sole MP representing Ottawa in cabinet after Ottawa-Vanier MP Mona Fortier was dropped during Wednesday’s shuffle.Sudds studied economics at Brock University before pursuing a Master’s degree at Carleton University, moving to the capital region in 2001.
She served as executive director of the CIO Strategy Council, a national technology forum, then became the founding executive director of the Kanata North Business Association. Her official government bio lists her work to protect green spaces, improve local infrastructure and transit, as well as her support for the community’s economic recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic as her council highlights.
She announced she would be vacating that council seat to run federally in 2021, where she won her first election as a Member of Parliament for Kanata-Carleton.Article content
