Democratic leader is set to speak at 4 p.m. after election defeat to Republican Trump
Democratic Vice-President Kamala Harris conceded the U.S. presidential election to Republican Donald Trump on Wednesday, hours before she was due to speak publicly for the first time since Tuesday's vote.Democratic Vice-President Kamala Harris called Donald Trump on Wednesday to congratulate the Republican leader on his U.S. presidential election win, two aides to Harris said.
Also Wednesday, President Joe Biden called to congratulate Mr. Trump on his presidential election victory and invite him to meet at the White House. Mr. Biden will address the nation on Thursday. The White House, in a statement after Trump beat Vice President Harris, said Mr. Biden also committed “to ensuring a smooth transition and emphasized the importance of working to bring the country together.” Mr. Biden has also spoken with Ms. Harris, it added.
