During his confirmation hearing, Army nominee Bret Hegseth denied sexual assault allegations but faced tough questioning from Sen. Tim Kaine about his past infidelities and multiple marriages.
During his confirmation hearing on Tuesday, Army nominee for Assistant Secretary of the Army, Bret Hegseth , faced intense questioning from Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.) regarding past allegations of sexual assault. Hegseth vehemently denied the accusations, asserting that he had been thoroughly investigated and completely cleared. However, Kaine remained unconvinced, highlighting Hegseth's history of infidelity and multiple marriages.
Kaine specifically addressed a 2017 incident where Hegseth was accused of sexual assault. He pointed out that Hegseth had fathered a child with a woman who wasn't his wife just two months prior to the alleged assault. 'I am shocked that you would stand here and say you're completely cleared,' Kaine challenged. 'Can you so casually cheat on a second wife and cheat on the mother of a child that had been born two months before? And you tell us you were completely cleared?' Hegseth responded by acknowledging his imperfections, stating, 'I'm not a perfect person. I have failed at things in my life and thankfully I'm redeemed by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.' Kaine pressed further, questioning Hegseth's fidelity within his marriages. 'I assume that in each of your weddings, you've pledged to be faithful to your wife. You've taken an oath to do that, haven't you?' he asked.
