JWB property management and some of its former tenants have come to a settlement agreement in a class action lawsuit regarding eviction filing fees.
– A Jacksonville woman went up against a major local landlord in court, and in the process, helped secure a class action settlement agreement worth more than half a million dollars, her attorneys said.
By the time Arlie Conner moved out of a JWB-managed rental property in 2021, she said she’d had enough of her landlords. She said she did not pay the fees, instead turning to Jacksonville Beach consumer attorneys Max Story and Austin Griffin. “I wanted him to go in, both barrels loaded guns a-blazing, to show them that they can’t just pick on people because they feel like they have them in a spot between a rock and a hard place,” she said.
“JWB was involved in a lawsuit stemming from the specific wording from an intent to claim form regarding cost of court filings for several former tenants. At all times, JWB has striven to act in accordance with state and federal law governing residential leases. While JWB denies any wrongdoing, we believe the settlement agreement is in the best interest our team and former residents.”
