Now the question is how Trudeau will handle his most important cabinet post as his government prepares a new agenda for the fall. His Liberal Party got an initial boost in polls in the pandemic, but that faded in summer as it emerged that both Trudeau and Morneau had family links to a charity that was handed a lucrative government contract.
The big question is how ambitious Canada can afford to be. Advocates close to Trudeau are pushing for a transformational social and economic agenda and see Morneau as an obstacle. Too “orthodox,” is how one official close to the prime minister describes him.
