Justice Department officials in Washington have taken over the corruption investigation into Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, removing the case from the hands of the federal prosecutors in Texas who’d long been leading the the probe

Texas AG Criminal Allegations

The move was disclosed in a statement by state prosecutors handling their own case against Paxton.

It’s not known whether Paxton will face charges, although investigators in Texas who had worked the case believed there was sufficient evidence for an indictment, according to two people familiar with the matter who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing probe.
