Only three of the six remaining leadership candidates in the race to become the next Prime Minister have promised to tackle the cost of living crisis during their campaigns
, the Attorney General, has pledged to remove VAT from energy bills, which are expected to reach as much as £3,200 by the autumn.
They also said the first instalment of the cost of living payment due to land in some people’s bank accounts from tomorrow would “barely scratch the surface” for families on the breadline. Mr Sunak has yet to make any further policy pledges to tackle the crisis since announcing his leadership bid last week.
