The deal, if it goes ahead, would
in principle to merge with Dutch rival Takeaway.com to create one of the world’s largest such platforms, a move that could help the Europe-headquartered firms stay competitive amid increasing competition from rivals Uber Eats and Amazon-backed Deliveroo.
Takeaway.com founder Jitse Groen will head up the company, while Mike Evans, Just Eat chairman, will chair it. As well as increasing the global reach of the companies, the merger could mean a greater range of restaurants for customers, as well as developing technology to improve the firm’s day-to-day operations. Takeaway.com, which has reportedly been in discussions with Just Eat for several weeks, has until August 24 to firm up the deal.
