Jurors took two hours to decide Miguel Garcia Gonzalez intentionally killed Frank Hammonds after a meth-fueled argument.

A jury Friday found him guilty of murder in the shovel beating death of Frank Hammonds, 67, on June 13, 2021.The last thing jurors saw Friday before attorneys gave their closing arguments in the murder trial of Miguel Garcia Gonzalez were photos of the gruesome injuries to Frank Hammonds — blunt and sharp force trauma to his skull from a shovel, which left his brain exposed.
Prosecutors said Gonzalez killed Hammonds, 67, on June 13, 2021, after an argument in the 1700 block of South Loop 1604.Gonzalez told Bexar County Sheriff’s Office investigators following his arrest that he and Hammonds had been smoking crystal meth the night before. He said Hammonds would tease and humiliate him whenever they were together.
Dr. Garrett Phillips, deputy chief medical examiner for Bexar County, was the state’s last witness Friday and explained the gruesome details of facial photographs of Hammonds, detailing the injuries.
