Brendan Gallagher and Nick Suzuki also scored for the Canadiens, who ended their three-game road trip with an 0-2-1 record and they are now 5-4-2 on the season.
Slafkovsky, the No. 1 overall pick at the 2022 NHL Draft, failed to score in the first 10 games and had only 10 shots on goal — none on a high-danger chance. He had failed to get a single shot on goal in the two previous games. “I don’t really focus on the past because I can’t do much about it,” Slafkovsky told reporters in St. Louis after the game. “I’m just looking forward every game, trying to watch the clips shortly after the game and think about what could be better.”
Gallagher was another bright spot for the Canadiens with a goal and an assist for the second straight game, giving him 4-3-7 totals. It’s early, but with four goals in 11 games Gallagher is on pace to score 30 goals. Sean Monahan extended his points streak to five games with an assist on Gallagher’s goal.
St. Louis said his team needs to play a more simple game with less risks and players need to be more disciplined with the decisions they make. Gallagher said the Canadiens need to learn to play better on the road, where they have a 1-2-2 record.
