Karen Small brought her management staff and kitchen staff from the Flying Fig to the new space, giving them space to work out an “aspirational menu” of southern-influenced breakfast dishes.

to open her breakfast joint on March 1, 2020, offering her second concept in a different part of the Cleveland neighborhood.Small said she nearly walked away from Juneberry during the pandemic’s ups and downs. It wasn’t until she decided to rework The Flying Fig in Ohio City that she decided to stick with the breakfast shop.

Small stuck with Juneberry, which has become her primary focus this year after deciding to close the Fig on Feb. 26. Renovations were done by Chris Shimp, with design work by Charity D’Amato-Crawford at Studio Chartreuse to create a pastel mural on the back wall. The space focuses on bright natural light, Small said.

Juneberry Table is set to open to the public in early April. The restaurant’s starting hours will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursdays through Mondays. “The reason I call it aspirational is because until we get into the space here and start trying to execute it as a restaurant, we’re not going to know how much can stay and how much has to go,” Small said. “It’s much less space and much less equipment than we’re accustomed to. We’ve got to work the kinks out on that before we really call it a final menu, but the testing is going really well.”
