The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau has just rewritten the show's place in the Star Wars timeline - but why has he made this surprising decision?
Jon Favreau, showrunner of The Mandalorian, has rewritten the show's timeline in a bombshell statement. When George Lucas created Star Wars, he set the adventures of Luke Skywalker against the broadest of tapestries - a galaxy with millennia of history, much of which Luke himself was entirely ignorant of. Since then, every Star Wars story has been set against a carefully-curated timeline.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Favreau has, however, just rewritten The Mandalorian's timeline. Speaking to Skytalkers, he confirms Grogu was "rescued and spent many years with The Mandalorian, went back with Luke [Skywalker], now he's been two years apart from him, training." The statement is a shocking one, directly contradicting Favreau's earlier comments. It means The Mandalorian may be set quite a few years after Return of the Jedi. When Is The Mandalorian REALLY Set In The Star Wars Timeline? Favreau's bombshell statement leaves the whole Star Wars timeline in something of a blur.
This, naturally, has enormous implications for the continuing story told in The Mandalorian era. It means, for example, that the Imperial threat lurking in the Outer Rim has been continuing to build for years. It means Dr. Pershing, the Imperial cloning expert played Omid Abtahi who is confirmed to return in The Mandalorian season 3, has been a prisoner of the New Republic for two years. And it presumably means Din Djarin hasn't returned to Nevarro for quite some time.
The Star Wars galaxy is constantly evolving. Favreau's shocking comment means the galaxy has had a lot of time to change around Din Djarin and Grogu, and viewers should expect plenty of surprises. It will be thrilling to see what The Mandalorian season 3 has in store.Source: Skytalkers
