A jury ruled in Johnny' Depp's favour after he sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation over an article she wrote about experiencing domestic violence, which did not name him
Johnny Depp’s lawyer has said that claims that the jury was ‘tainted’ by social media during the defamation case between him and Amber Heard are ‘baseless’.
Benjamin Chew, who was part of Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny’s legal team, has said that these accusations were “really disappointing” to hear. Johnny was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Amber was awarded $2 million in damages for one count in her countersuit against the actor.
“There are rules of evidence and both sides had evidence that were excluded for proper evidentiary reasons,” he said. She added: “I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback.
