John Swinney has pledged to work with a future Labour government at Westminster to secure the future of the Grangemouth industrial complex.
Unite the union is running a campaign to maintain oil refining at Grangemouth and has repeatedly called for politicians to support it. "We all know we have a transition to net zero to make. That transition is going to have to be made in all walks of life, including at Grangemouth. Asked if he would be raising Grangemouth with a new UK Government next month, Swinney said: "I certainly will be, yes. Because it is such a vital part of our infrastructure and we need to carefully work with he company to find a way through this."
Derek Thomson, the union's Scottish secretary, previously said: "Time is of the essence regarding the future of 500 highly skilled jobs at the refinery."
