John Singleton, the filmmaker who brought African-American stories of the inner city into the center of Hollywood and popular culture with movies such as “Boyz N the Hood” and “Poetic Justice,” died on Monday at age 51. He had struggled with hypertension and suffered a stroke earlier this month, according to a statement from his family.
