Jim Nunn wasn't much for social media, posting this lone pic on Facebook after his retirement. On Monday, I heard plenty about the fearless and fearsome ways of the fabled Nova Scotia broadcaster Jim Nunn, who died on the weekend at age 72.
Before long, a fulsome debate was underway. Nunn just stayed put, talking politics in the locker room, unable to even make it to the first tee.In the 1980s and 1990s, the journalistic terrain in Nova Scotia looked much different than it does today. D’Eon saw this close up in 1988 when he accompanied Nunn to Antigonish for a 10-minute interview with then-Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.By that he means that Nunn was “not rude but determined,” with his pointed questions about the goods and services tax, the free trade agreement and even the Meech Lake Accord.
Like the best interviewers, he was intuitive, ready to jettison a list of carefully-crafted questions to follow a conversation wherever it led.
