The protesters were subdued by Biden's campaign staff while the former vice president's wife put herself between the stage-rushers and her husband.
Former Vice President Joe Biden suggested Thursday that the Secret Service may need to begin offering protection to the remaining Democratic presidential candidates after protesters stormed the stage at his Super Tuesday victory rally.
“I think that that’s something that has to be considered the more outrageous some of this becomes,” Biden said of the prospect of a Secret Service detail. “My wife’s something else, isn’t she? I wasn’t scared for me. I was worried for Jill. God love her. She’s incredible.” After seeing the clip of Jill Biden fending off the protester, Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee Rep. Bennie Thompson on Wednesday sent a letter to the Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf and members of the Candidate Protection Advisory Committee, asking for them to immediately convene to decide if Biden and Sanders will receive protection.
A spokeswoman for the Secret Service said it would release a statement on protection for the remaining presidential candidates later Thursday.
