William Lundrigan, from Upper Island Cove, enlisted in the British Royal Navy in January 1940 at the age of 18. Within months, his ship was torpedoed.

“Edith and William met in October 1944 and quickly fell in love. After a brief romance, they married in 1945 and lived in England until 1949. They then sailed on the RMS Newfoundland to start a new life in Canada’s newest province.” Lundrigan describes his parents as humble, hard-working people, but, perhaps as all parents are to their children, something of a mystery. Both had lived through global strife when they were young, and it forged something of their characters, their dispositions. For example, their children knew they were loved, but it was demonstrated, not articulated.
