“When someone talks s--- about one of us, or one of our coaches, or anybody in the building, we want to have their back,” Uzomah said. “So this one was for Hack. And obviously, we want to get on track, we want to start getting this thing turned around as an offense. ... But at the same time, we wanted to win for Hack, and make him proud, and make him proud to be back on this field looking across.”
Of course, things haven’t worked out the way the Jets hoped they would, with Rodgers tearing his Achilles on his fourth play as a Jet. But the offense has been better in recent weeks, and they were good enough to beat the Broncos on Sunday which had to be satisfying to Hackett. “I just want you guys to know it’s an honor to be with you guys,” Hackett told his players. “Watching that defense go out there, sack him, get turnovers, it’s absolutely beautiful. Watching that offense run that ball? Breece! That is tough!”“He’s a Jet,” Williams said of Hackett. “He’s one of us. ... If you got a comment about him, you’ve got a comment about all of us. That was the biggest thing. At the end of the game, getting this win for him was really huge.
The Jets could certainly improve on their 0-for-5 performance in the red zone and their poor clock management in the first half. But after failing to move the ball for most of the Cowboys and Patriots losses, the last two games have been a step in the right direction. On they must build on with the defending NFC champion Eagles coming to MetLife Stadium next week.
