The lawsuit said both men suffered injuries that needed surgery.

Jersey City will pay $500,000 to two New York men who filed a lawsuit after they were injured in a crash with a city street sweeper nearly four years ago.

City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said there is no crash report from the incident, but a police report said the van being driven by Cueto was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck the street sweeper. She also noted that Cueto and Padilla were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, but the report did not classify their injuries as serious.

The Jersey City police report said both vehicles sustained moderate damage. Jersey City officials declined to comment on the settlement, one of two before the city council Wednesday night for approval.
