Jeff Bridges reveals that there’s one condition that would need to be met in order for him to return as The Dude in a sequel to The Big Lebowski.

The Big Lebowski star Jeff Bridges reveals that he's open to reprising his role as The Dude for a sequel, but only if one condition is met. Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, The Big Lebowski was released in 1998, underperforming at the box office. In subsequent years, however, the film would go on to garner a massive cult following.

In a recent interview with People, Bridges reveals that there's one condition that would need to be met in order for him to return for a Big Lebowski sequel. According to the actor, the Coen brothers would need to be involved. Check out Bridge's full comment on the possibility of a sequel below: SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT "Oh God! If the brothers were involved, I certainly would. The brothers, they're mysterious and full of surprises. You don't know what they're going to do, so since they're surprising, I don't think they'll make a sequel. But like I say, they're surprising, so maybe they'll surprise me and make a sequel.

Is A Big Lebowski Sequel A Good Idea? While Bridges may be open to the idea of returning as The Dude for a sequel to The Big Lebowski, there's a strong case to be made that the 1998 cult classic should remain a one-and-done affair. For one thing, The Big Lebowski's ending doesn't really set up any further stories. The Stranger does reveal that Maude is pregnant, meaning The Dude will soon have a son, but that in itself isn't strong enough to justify a follow-up movie.

The Big Lebowski may have divided critics upon its release, but it has since become a beloved film, even inspiring a new lifestyle philosophy known as "Dudeism". Even if the Coen brothers return to write, direct, and produce, any sequel still risks ruining what made the original film special. Not only that, but 2019's The Jesus Rolls, which continues the story of John Turturro's exuberant bowler from The Big Lebowski, was a major disappointment.
