Hollywood A-lister puts life long activism to work in new film that looks at environmental challenges in the world today.

Tickets and info:elementsfilmfest.orgOn Jan. 9, 2018, Bridges’ family home in Montecito, Calif., was struck by a debris flow that came one month after a series of major wildfires caused de-vegetation and destabilization on the surrounding slopes. Sadly, 21 people lost their lives in the Santa Barbara County mudslides. Bridges, his wife Susan and their dog were airlifted to safety.

The film is one of the highlights of the second annual Elements Film Festival, being held from April 8 to 14 at Telus World of Science in Vancouver. It will be screened on April 11 at 7:30 p.m. and will be attended by Kucera. “I didn’t want to make a documentary about pointing fingers at the bad oil people and that kind of thing. Or spotlight all of the terrible findings scientists had found. We’d done enough of that. I wanted to figure out something new, so we got together and talked about it and she felt the same way.”“One of the things that interested both of us is, why are we behaving this way knowing what all of our top scientists are saying, so we thought we would get into that,” said Bridges.

“It is so fearful, the information. What we do when we are afraid is we don’t make the wisest decisions,” said Bridges, whose film career resumé is packed with iconic roles. “We have the capacity to love as well as be fearful, so let’s think about the love for our planet.” “I hope they have some better meta cognition of how their brains work and how you can actually harness that,” said Kucera, whose father was the head of the department of geology at UBC. “We don’t want to stamp out desire, right?”

“We have this consciousness that supports love. We can do that right now. We don’t have to wait for the future,” added Bridges. “We can take loving actions. We’re asked to do that all the time.”
