Latest updates: health secretary says rise of Omicron variant also behind delay to publication of ‘elective recovery plan’
Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, which represents health leaders, told the Today programme this morning that it was important for the government to set realistic targets for its elective recovery plan. He said: It is really important that we are accountable for public money that is spent, but the danger is that, if you take on targets that are unrealistic, you end up skewing clinical priorities in pursuit of those targets.
