Jasper residents who lost their homes face unique challenges tied to leasing provisions nearly as old as Canada, as well as modern rules dictating what they can and can’t build.
It’s been more than 13 years since the town of Slave Lake, Alta., was devastated by wildfire. Now, following the Jasper wildfire, Global News takes a look back on how the experience can help those in Jasper now. Former Slave Lake councillor and mayor, Tyler Waman, spoke to Global News at Noon about what it’s like in the municipality more than a decade later.

MacEachern said the upshot is leaseholders feel the government has too much power, while Ottawa is concerned it gave up too much control.
