Those who begin involving themselves in school board politics can’t expect a fair court to adjudicate their disputes if they arise
, the top court demonstrated a clear preference for gender activism.
The initial suit was launched by a school board trustee, Barry Neufeld, who publicly opposed B.C.’s gender education guide for schools. Neufeld argued that the guide was being used to teach that “gender is not biologically determined, but is a social construct,” a theory which he called “absurd,” and counter to “traditional family values.”Article content
Ultimately, the court sided with the teacher and dismissed the lawsuit before it could be fought out in a proper trial . Part of the reasoning behind the call was that the public interest in Hansman’s ability to express himself outweighed the harm of any defamation experienced by Neufeld.
