The history, mission, technology and research carried out by the James Webb Space Telescope, a space telescope that can see far into the past of our universe. It has revealed amazing new stars, galaxies and information about the Universe.Perhaps no other recent scientific instrument has captivated the public's attention as much as NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope .

Being in orbit at L2 helps the telescope stay in coordination with Earth as it goes around the sun. This spot is popular with other space telescopes as well — the Webb, Vice President Lyndon Johnson, Kurt H. Debus, and President John F. Kennedy receive a briefing on Saturn I launch operations during a tour of Launch Complex 34, September 1962., the JWST works like a regular telescope in some ways. It captures light and it can focus so we can see far. But there are a lot of differences. The JWST can observe a different part of the electromagnetic spectrum than we can with our eyes.

Why was beryllium chosen? It is very strong while also being light in weight and holds its shape well under a variety of temperatures. It’s also a good conductor of heat and electricity, while not being magnetic.— that’s 6.5 meters — in diameter. Compared to Hubble, this area is more than six times greater, with the collecting area of Hubble being 4.0 mNotably, the segmented primary mirror is not the only one making up the Webb’s optical design, which is actually of a three-mirror anastigmat.

Fascinatingly, its wavefront sensing is even finer than the thickness of an average human hair. In order to achieve redundancy, NIRCam has two fully complete optical systems, which can operate at the same time while viewing two separate areas of the sky. This instrument was contributed by the European Space Agency, is a spectrograph that images light over a range of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Astronomers can use the instrument to examine cooler objects which emit the main bulk of their light in the mid-infrared. Another set of subjects for MIRI to focus on are very distant galaxies which saw their light shift into the mid-infrared with the passage of time. This is a combination instrument, featuring a Fine Guidance Sensor, a near-infrared imager, and a spectrograph.

The Attitude Control Subsystem that’s part of the spacecraft bus keeps the space observatory in a stable orbit, and moves it for observations.
