Indiana coroner’s office has confirmed that Vicky White, the former Alabama corrections officer accused of helping murder suspect Casey White escape from prison, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Vicky and Casey White, who are not related, were captured by police about 270 miles away in Indiana following a national manhunt that ended in a car crash on Monday. As police closed in on the couple, a cop car rammed into their vehicle, tipping it over onto its side and into a ditch. If the car hadn’t crashed, escaped inmate Casey White had planned to open fire at police officers, Vanderburgh County Sheriff David Wedding said Tuesday.
