In my case, grief is as unpredictable as a slot machine and as unmanageable as the weather. There is, of course, the gray leaden weight of sadness; but there’s also an added frisson of manic disorientation that occasionally makes me ask close, trusted confidantes: “Do I seem crazy to you?”

She’s so good that I pay her out of pocket — insurance would have covered, no offense, a green millennial 35 years my junior who does Zoom meetings and talks about my “healing journey.”
