“The funny thing is that my dad didn’t let me play football growing up,” J.P. Crawford, son of former Lions DB Larry Crawford explained.
It’s certainly an athletic family. Eliza played softball at Cal State Fullerton. Julia just wrapped up her senior season with Cal State Fullerton’s women’s volleyball team.
“Growing up with two athletic sisters, the house was always competitive, no matter what we did,” J.P. said. “Everything was a competition. We’d always have competitions at the batting cage, with who could hit the most miles-per-hour. The Mariners lost to the Houston Astros in the second round last year. Among their roster tweaks in the off-season was bringing in power-hitting outfielder Teoscar Hernandez from the Jays. “Everyone was excited to get back to spring training after last year,” Crawford said. “The feeling you get playing in the playoffs, I think it’s addicting. Now we’re ready to get this season going and kick-off another historic year.”Crawford, 28, was a first-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013 out of Lakewood High in California. He was traded to Seattle in December 2018.
