On the east end of Livermore Valley, five female winemakers build on the legacy that California’s first technically-trained female winemaker started more than 70 years ago.

A first for the Tri-Valley and the Bay Area, the 200-seat venue features a stage designed by the same talent behind Napa’s Bottle Rock and is already drawing musicians from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Nashville who are looking for new venues to shine in after the pandemic wreaked havoc on the entire industry. Some have started calling it Baby Yoshi’s.“They are the sixth generation in my family to work in wine,” she says. “And they really are involved in every single decision.

A modern tasting room is in the cards this summer for Free Range Flower Winery founder Aaliyah Nitoto, who makes wine in a production facility at Longevity Wines. “L” Lavender Wine has a lemony, off-dry effervescence perfect for brunch, while the ruby-hued RoseHybiscus, which earned a silver medal at the 2019 Sunset International Wine Competition, marries earthy sage notes with raspberry. A new Red Clover wine is coming soon.$15 tastings with an option to add artisanal chocolates.

Rosa “Rosie” Fierro can often be found behind the tasting bar of her winery on South Vasco Road’s “The Block.” Luscious and loaded with fig and plum flavors, the 2015 De La Luna Los Carneros Napa Merlot would pair beautifully with a big Angus burger, while the 2019 Livermore Valley “The Oaked” Chardonnay offers a creamy and delicately buttery profile. Both wines have taken gold at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.Tastings are$20. Open from noon to 5 p.m. Friday-Sunday at 2245 S.
