It seems our leaders are so afraid of getting Trump angry that they are staying silent, to Canada’s detriment
at his Florida White House, Mar-a-Lago. Afterward, the president-elect decided to insult the Prime Minister with a post to his media site, Truth Social, referring to Mr. Trudeau as the “Governor” of the “Great State of Canada.”
But then Mr. Trump followed that post by sharing an AI-generated image of himself admiring a snow-capped mountain range with a big Canadian flag billowing behind him and the caption: “Oh Canada!” Many Americans benefit from Canadian exports. And any trade war with Canada is going to hurt a bunch of people south of the border.
It’s no surprise that Mr. Trump’s idea has made it to Fox News, where it has been promoted enthusiastically. On one talk show, host Jesse Watters said: “I don’t know if Canada is going to go along with it but there’s ways to maybe change their minds.” He continued: “So, Canada, welcome to America whether you like it or not.” Mr. Trump’s son Eric recently posted: “51st State! #Canada.”
