‘She radiates loves. She radiates humanity. She radiates empathy. Once you see her, you want to know who she is’

In late November, Forough Khadem watched her first beginning-to-end football game, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 33-12 hammering of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to capture the Grey Cup.

“She was just such an amazing woman, and inspiration,” said Dr. Jude Uzonna, professor and associate dean of research at the Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. “She radiates loves. She radiates humanity. She radiates empathy. Once you see her, you want to know who she is.” “I used to call her an Energizer battery, because she never gets tired. I never met a woman of such vigour and strength,” he said.

On Monday, Uzonna, concerned about the tensions between the U.S. and Iran, sent her a text: “Dr. Khadem, how are you doing?” Also among the 176 passengers and nine crew members who died were a Winnipeg family of three: Mehdi Sadeghi, his wife Bahareh Hajesfandiari and 10-year-old daughter Anisa Sadeghi.

Amirhossein Ghorbani Bahabadi, a student in the International College of Manitoba, a pathway to the U of Manitoba, is also believed to have been on the flight.
