It’s a flip of October’s weather, which as late as Saturday, seemed more like summer many days.“Certainly snow at the end of October into early November is not unheard of, especially in Cape Breton and northern Cape Breton," said SaltWire weather specialist Allister Aalders.ALLISTER AALDERS: Hints of winter lurking with temperatures set to tumble next week“Lots of people remember when trick or treating when they were a kid having to go through snow on Halloween.
But Monday’s event was expected to be more of a rainy mix for the more populated CBRM area with maybe a few wet snowflakes but nothing sticking. The same situation is likely for Wednesday in the CBRM area with the possibility of a couple of centimetres landing on the ground but not sticking around due to the warm air and ground conditions.Unless there’s a change in the forecast, the rest of Cape Breton is likely to see just a trace to a couple of centimetres of snow, Aalders said.
But Aalders said it’s a good warning for people to make their snow tire appointments, put the snow scraper back in the car, organize the snow shovels and assemble their emergency kits.“It’s panic day today,” said Marcel Cosett, assistant manager of Master Auto Service in Sydney. “They’re a little bit more safe on ice and icy roads,” said Cosett, who recommends them to his family.Because of El Niño and above normal warm ocean temperatures, there are a lot of factors to play out before the type of winter can be predicted, Aalders said.
