When it comes down to it, the problem with this relationship — even if sex is not involved — has little to do with the law. Let’s say nobody ever finds out, and the cops never come knocking on his door. It’s still wrong, and here’s why.

Authority figures who want to sleep with teenagers know all of this, and in fact try to exploit it. This guy is well aware that you are itching to leave childhood behind, so he’s offering you a way to accelerate that transformation. Some Americans’ idea of teen sexuality can be hopelessly black and white — either you’re a child or you’re not; either you can legally consent or you can’t — and this simplistic, if well-meaning, hard line can end up hurting victims.
