In that case, it’s possible state courts would be the final arbiters regarding candidate eligibility, and election officers like me would be charged with carrying out our state courts’ rulings.

That’s why in Michigan, unless a court rules otherwise, Donald Trump will be on the ballot for our Republican presidential primary on Feb. 27, 2024. In 2020, democracy prevailed against a historic effort to undermine it because people of integrity, on both sides of the aisle and in all three branches of government, enforced the guardrails and laws.
