“The system’s not in crisis. It’s not going to collapse,” said Smith, making the announcement the day before her government tables its 2023 Budget. Wait times at emergency departments remained high at a 6.4-hour average in January, but that number still marks a 10 per cent decrease from November. “We now have enough data to know rationally what our targets can look like . . . Over the last 90 days, we’ve made these tangible and measurable results, and they’ve laid the groundwork for more improvements to come.”
